O Sacred Head, Now Wounded
by Paul Gerhardt, 1607-1676
|
O sacred Head, now wounded,
With grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded
With thorns, Thine only crown.
O sacred Head, what glory,
What bliss, till now was Thine!
Yet, though despised and gory,
I joy to call Thee mine.
Men mock and taunt and jeer Thee,
Thou noble countenance,
Though mighty worlds shall fear Thee
And flee before Thy glance.
How art thou pale with anguish,
With sore abuse and scorn!
How doth Thy visage languish
That once was bright as morn!
Now from Thy cheeks has vanished
Their color, once so fair;
From Thy red lips is banished
The splendor that was there.
Grim Death, with cruel rigor,
Hath robbed Thee of Thy life;
Thus Thou has lost Thy vigor,
Thy strength, in this sad strife.
My burden in Thy Passion,
Lord, Thou hast borne for me,
For it was my transgression
Which brought this woe on thee.
I cast me down before Thee,
Wrath were my rightful lot;
Have mercy, I implore Thee;
Redeemer, spurn me not!
My Shepherd, now receive me;
My Guardian, own me Thine.
Great blessings Thou didst give me,
O Source of gifts divine!
Thy lips have often fed me
With words of truth and love,
Thy Spirit oft hath led me
To heavenly joys above.
Here I will stand beside Thee,
From Thee I will not part;
O Savior, do not chide me!
When breaks Thy loving heart,
When soul and body languish
In death's cold, cruel grasp,
Then, in Thy deepest anguish,
Thee in mine arms I'll clasp.
The joy can ne'er be spoken,
Above all joys beside,
When in Thy body broken
I thus with safety hide.
O Lord of life, desiring
Thy glory now to see,
Beside Thy cross expiring,
I'd breathe my soul to Thee.
What language shall I borrow
To thank Thee, dearest Friend,
For this, Thy dying sorrow,
Thy pity without end?
Oh, make me thine forever!
And should I fainting be,
Lord, let me never, never,
Outlive my love for Thee.
My Savior, be Thou near me
When death is at my door;
Then let Thy presence cheer me,
Forsake me nevermore!
When soul and body languish,
Oh, leave me not alone,
But take away mine anguish
By virtue of Thine own!
Be Thou my Consolation,
My Shield when I must die;
Remind me of Thy Passion
When my last hour draws nigh.
Mine eyes shall then behold Thee,
Upon Thy cross shall dwell,
My heart by faith enfold Thee.
Who dieth thus dies well!

Our Song of Victory
|
The Lord provides for me always,
For each and ev'ry care.
And tho' the storms should come,
I know that Christ is always there.
And who shall take salvation from me,
Or steal the grace I've known?
Not even the gates of hell
Shall destroy the love that God has shown,
The love that God has shown.
Chorus:
For I'm sure that neither death, nor life,
No height, nor depth, nor anything else in the world
Shall be able to cut us off from God,
Shall be able to separate this Love,
In Christ Jesus, we have won!
Jesus Christ is the Answer,
I need to search no more,
For when by grace He called to me,
I opened wide the door.
No longer must I fear the Temptor,
Nor face this life alone:
My Savior is here to stay,
'Til the day He brings me home,
The day He brings me home.
Repeat chorus; add at end: We have won!

The Strife Is O'er
|
Refrain: Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
The strife is o'er, the battle done; The victory of life is won;
The song of triumph has begun. Alleluia!
(Refrain)
The pow'rs of death have done their worst,
But Christ their legions hath dispersed:
Let shouts of holy joy outburst. Alleluia!
(Refrain)
The three sad days have quickly sped; He rises glorious from the dead:
All glory to our risen Head! Alleluia!
(Refrain)
He closed the yawning gates of hell;
The bars from heav'ns high portals fell:
Let hymns of praise His triumphs tell. Alleluia!
(Refrain)
Lord, by the stripes which wounded Thee,
From death's dread sting Thy servants free,
That we may live and sing to Thee. Alleluia!
(Refrain)

Thine Is The Glory
|
Thine is the glory, Risen, conqu'ring Son;
Endless is the vict'ry Thou o'er death hast won.
Angels in bright raiment Rolled the stone away,
Kept the folded graveclothes Where Thy body lay.
Refrain:
Thine is the glory, Risen, conq'ring Son;
Endless is the vict'ry Thou o'er death hast won.
Lo! Jesus meets us, Risen, from the tomb;
Lovingly He greets us, Scatters fear and gloom;
Let His church with gladness Hymns of triumph sing,
For her Lord now liveth; Death hath lost its sting.
No more we doubt Thee, Glorious Prince of Life!
Life is naught without Thee; Aid us in our strife.
Make us more than conqu'rors, Through Thy deathless love;
Bring us safe through Jordan To Thy home above.

We Come Today
Words and Music by Dave Laborde & Larry Holder
midi
|
We come today to pledge anew
Your love for us, our love for You.
Receive our prayer, accept our praise,
Both now and throughout eternal days.
We come today with hearts aflame
To glorify Your matchless Name:
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords,
The Bread of Life and the Living Word.
Refrain:
If we did not sing our praise to You,
Then the stones would shout and the stars would, too,
For Your matchless praise cannot be contained
In our heart ... In our soul ...
(Repeat first verse)

Welcome, Happy Morning!
|
"Welcome, happy morning!" Age to age shall say;
Hell today is vanquished! Heav'n is won today!
Lo! the Dead is living, God forevermore,
Him, their true Creator, All His work adore;
Refrain:
"Welcome, happy morning!" Age to age shall say;
Hell today is vanquished! Heav'n is won today!
Maker and Redeemer, Life and health of all,
Thou from heav'n beholding Human nature's fall,
Of the Father's Godhead True and only Son,
Manhood to deliver, Manhood didst put on.
Thou, of life the Author, Death didst undergo,
Tread the path of darkness, Saving strength to show;
Come then, True and Faithful, Now fulfill Thy Word,
'Tis Thine own third morning; Rise, O buried Lord!
Loose the souls long prisoned, Bound with Satan's chain;
All that now are fallen Raise to life again;
Show Thy face in brightness, Bid the nations see;
Bring again our daylight; Day returns with Thee!

Welcome, Thou Victor In The Strife
|
Welcome, Thou Victor in the strife, Welcome from out the cave!
Today we triumph in Thy life Around Thine empty grave.
Our enemy is put to shame, His short-lived triumph o'er;
Our God is with us, we exclaim: We fear our foe no more.
The dwellings of the just resound With songs of victory;
For in their midst, Thou, Lord, art found, And bringest peace with Thee.
O let Thy conq'ring banner wave O'er hearts Thou makest free;
And point the path that from the grave Leads heav'nward up to Thee.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord? (repeat)
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree? (repeat)
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they pierced Him in the side? (repeat)
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they pierced Him in the side?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb? (repeat)
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there they they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when He rose up from the grave? (repeat)
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when He rose up from the grave?

We Welcome Glad Easter
|
We welcome glad Easter when Jesus arose,
And won a great victory over His foes.
Refrain
Then raise your glad voices, all Christians and sing,
Bring glad Easter tidings to Jesus, your King.
We tell how the women came early that day,
And there at the tomb found the stone rolled away.
Refrain
We sing of the angel who said: "Do not fear!
Your Savior is risen, and He is not here."
Refrain
We think of the promise which Jesus did give:
"That he who believes in Me also shall live!"
